The Lord's Prayer offers us a beautiful template for approaching God. Notice how it begins with praise and acknowledges God's sovereignty before addressing personal needs. This order is significant, as it sets the tone for a humble and reverent approach to prayer. We are not to be so taken up with ourselves that we rush into God’s presence and give Him a shopping list of our needs. Instead, we start by honoring God’s name and recognizing His supreme authority in our lives. His name is to be hallowed, meaning we long for His name to be revered and honored above all else, both in our hearts and in the world.
Today, try structuring your prayers similarly. Begin by expressing adoration for who God is. Acknowledge His greatness, His love, His mercy, and His grace. This act of praise not only honors God but also helps you to center your thoughts and spirit on His majesty and goodness.
