Day 1: The Glory of God's Love
Reading: John 13:31-35, Romans 5:6-8
Our Love for Each Other is the Unmistakable Sign of Christ's Work in Us.
Devotional:
In John 13, Jesus offers His disciples a glimpse into the profound mystery of God’s glory. As He prepares for His crucifixion, He speaks of glorification—not through power, status, or victory, but through sacrifice and love. The cross, which was a symbol of shame and suffering, becomes the ultimate display of God’s glory. This message seems counterintuitive to human understanding, where we often associate glory with triumph, strength, and honor. Yet, here is Jesus, proclaiming that God is glorified in His willingness to suffer, die, and give everything for those He loves.
In Romans 5:6-8, Paul echoes this truth, reminding us that Christ died for us while we were still sinners. This sacrificial love is not based on our worth or actions but on God’s unfathomable grace. God's love and glory are most powerfully revealed in this moment of ultimate weakness, the crucifixion.
Take time today to meditate on this truth: God’s glory is not found in the things we often value—success, fame, or power. Instead, it is revealed in sacrificial love.
How does this challenge your understanding of love and service?
How does it reshape your approach to your relationships and daily life?
Sacrificial love requires us to step outside of our comfort zones. Loving others, especially when it costs us, profoundly glorifies God. In John 13, Jesus gives us a new commandment to love one another just as He has loved us. This means our love must go beyond mere words or convenience—it must be marked by action, service, and sometimes even suffering. Just as Jesus gave His life for us, we are called to give of ourselves for others.
Consider the relationships in your life. Where can you demonstrate this kind of love today? Are there people you find difficult to love? How can you show God’s glory in your interactions with them? Remember, in these moments of sacrificial love, we most fully reflect Christ’s work in us.
Let your love today be the unmistakable sign of God’s transforming power in your life. Ask God to help you see opportunities to serve and love others, even when it’s uncomfortable or costly. In doing so, you glorify the God who has loved us sacrificially and calls us to do the same.
Our Love for Each Other is the Unmistakable Sign of Christ's Work in Us.
Have a Great Monday!
