Tuesday Devotional: What Your Running Costs the People Around You
Relentless When You RUn
“But the LORD hurled a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship threatened to break up. Then the mariners were afraid, and each cried out to his god. And they hurled the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten it for them.” Jonah 1:4-5 (ESV)
Jonah’s disobedience did not stay personal. It never does. The sailors on that ship lost cargo, lost sleep, and nearly lost their lives because one man made one decision to go the wrong direction. They had no idea what they had signed up for when they sold him the ticket. They paid for his running with everything they had.
Leadership has a wider radius than most leaders are willing to admit. When a leader avoids the hard conversation, the team absorbs the tension. When a leader delays the difficult decision, the organization carries the cost. When a leader drifts from their assignment, the people closest to them get pulled into conditions they never chose.
